The SIS-Stainable Fashion Program is a 10-week sewing course to show participants the basics of sewing, fabric sourcing, and sustainability. The focus on sustainability will cultivate new leadership in fashion to prioritize sustainability!



SKILLS TO GAIN


1. SEWING MACHINE 101

Learn the parts and functions of a machine, the different presser foots, and the many ways you can use a machine to CREATE.


2. SUSTAINABLE FASHION & UNCYCLING

Learn how to turn something old into something new, and set yourself apart as resourceful.


3. FABRIC SOURCING

The fabric and quality is just as important as using the machine, and if you invest your time in making a piece, it should be long-lasting! Learn how to select and find affordable fabrics.

4. BALANCE YOUR SIDE HUSTLE

As a college student, it can be difficult to manage your schedule and run a business. Learn from my mistakes and avoid common errors and create your success.


5. ETHICAL STYLE & EXPRESSION

Create your own unique style and never wear the same outfit twice, while saving your coin!


6. PATTERN-MAKING

Learn how to create and size items so that you can duplicate them.


7. HAND-SEWING

Learn how to do basic hand-sewing stitches for on the go repairs and fixes.


8. ADVOCATING AGAINST FAST FASHION

Learn the data and statistics of how the fast fashion industry is generating over 90 million tonnes of waste yearly.


9. PATHWAYS TO ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY

Learn how to turn your skills and talents into entrepreneurship, and how to stay motivated!


10. BUDGETING: INVEST IN YOUR SKILLS FOR LESS

Learn how to make smart investments into your craft and expand upon it. I got my first sewing machine for $30, and I have now transitioned to a project runway machine!
